Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team are one of the most successful Pan Disability Football Clubs in South Wales! And we are delighted that they chose Masons Self Storage as their preferred self-storage partner.

They have been running for over 15 years and have been so successful in that time! ‘Pan Disability’ means that their team members have differing impairments and physical abilities but play together regardless of their limitations in play. Their team comes from a very diverse background across the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff!  Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team

The team is organised completely by volunteers who self-fund by applying for grants offered by large companies and councils. Over the years, Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team has been successful in obtaining a range of grants including Welsh Water, Asda, Aberthaw Power Station, along with Community Chest Grants and Post Code Lottery funding. Plus, in 2019, they have also had two local companies sponsor their football shirts, which meant they were able to use their funding for training kits for every player at the start of the season, resulting in everyone feeling part of Barry Town United AFC!

Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team use the Masons Self Storage facility, which is conveniently located on the outskirts of Barry, Dinas Powys, Sully and just 10 minutes from Penarth, to store the training equipment and football kit for their teams. Their coaches have the details to gain entry to their unit, which they visit on a Tuesday to collect any items they require for training on a Tuesday night and the festival they attend every month! Being able to access their unit 24/7, with no limits by opening times makes the difference to Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team and what makes being with Masons Self Storage so convenient!

Due to the hardworking volunteers and committee that run Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team, they are now one of the best Pan Disability clubs in South Wales! Although it is run by volunteers, they are serious about what they are doing! They need to ensure that all the documentation for safeguarding for the FAW Trust, training certificates, registration of players and collecting & depositing money for the Treasurer are in place!

In addition to their team, they also run an incredibly successful football tournament every year with clubs from across Wales taking part! At their last tournament in January 2019, they had 11 clubs attending with an age range of 8 to 54, with different ability banding from Novice right up to Champions League; some of these players have represented Wales in the Learning Disability Squad! When all the groups were set, they had 26 teams and an amazing 178 players from all over South and West Wales! The event also attracted new sponsors including Fair-Trade Bala footballs supplied by Barry Town Council and Waitrose supplying Fair-Trade bananas for the players! At present, Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team has an amazingly dedicated team of players! With 8 players under 16 and 37 over 16 players with a plan is to increase the under 16s, ensuring the future of the club! Plus, all of their coaches hold (or will hold) a First Aid certificate and a Leaders Award by the end of their first season! Their team of coaches are just as dedicated as their players; with 4 coaches holding an FAW C licence certificate for either Youth or Senior and 3 holding FAW leaders Awards. One of their coaches, Chloe McBratney, recently won a Community Award of Sporting Achievement of the Year 2019 award run by Bro Radio!  It was a fantastic achievement and now she has gone and won the FAW/McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards Trust in the South Wales FA Outstanding Achievement category. Congratulations Chloe!

Their impressive Young Coaching Structure means they have solid foundations in place for the future! In addition, Barry Town Pan Disability Football Team are also working with the FAW Trust to try and improve the current Pan Disability setup and introduce a 11-a-side fully Pan Disability League in South Wales!
