After the last year and a half, we’ve all been spending a lot more time at home! However, when you rent your property, it can be hard to make the place feel like home. Luckily, there are some simple solutions to adding some personality to your home without breaking the terms of your contract!

Of course, before you start, always review your contract to see what is and isn’t allowed or ask your landlord’s permission.

House plants Add some greenery

We can’t be the only people to add a few more houseplants to our collection during the lockdown restrictions?! Plants and flowers are a simple way to brighten up any living space. Not only do they look good, but they also help purify the air and remove toxins! Be adventurous and add colour/texture to your living space with different style pots.

cushions and Textiles Textiles

Here at Masons HQ, we got into a bit of a debate about how many cushions on the sofa is too many! But textiles are one of the easiest ways to make a space yours. Scatter some cushions, add a throw to the sofa, change the curtains or use colourful towels in the bathroom.

Wall Art

Hang art without damaging the walls

Would you like to hang framed pictures or art on the walls, but you’re worried about damaging the walls? Make them into features of their own by propping them against walls or placing them on an end table to help prop them up. Alternatively, you could use command strips which promise to hold lots of weight and then remove from the wall without damaging it!

Bookshelf Accessorise

Take your room from drab to fab with some well-chosen accessories! From soft furnishings to make the room feel cosy, to a rug to bring the room together. Plus, books aren’t just for reading, they look great organised interestingly on a shelf too!

Light Let there be light

No matter how well you style a room, poor lighting will make the room look flat. Add floor lamps, candles and even mirrors to add exciting lighting around the room.

Small but mighty

Big and bulky furniture can dominate a room and make even the biggest rooms feel crowded. A great way to avoid this is to break it up by choosing a smaller sofa and an armchair over a large corner sofa. Similarly, choose smaller coffee tables that are modular or nested together to make a room feel instantly bigger.

But just because you don’t need it right now doesn’t mean that you need to get rid of it forever. Any extra furniture or even out-of-season clothes can go into storage! Based just ten minutes from Cardiff Bay, here at Masons Self Storage, we have a range of flexible self-storage units available!
